Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Yuit Partner Mariajose attended last week’s Anchorage Municipal Assembly meeting, where a resolution was passed recognizing and celebrating Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month (September 15–October 15, 2025) in Anchorage.

Mariajose, a proud immigrant from Ecuador, joined fellow Latino community members in honoring this meaningful recognition. Deeply connected to both her Anchorage community and her Hispanic heritage, she stood alongside students from the West High Spanish Immersion program and longtime Alaskan educator Anaelyz Hernandez, originally from Venezuela.

The evening was a powerful reminder of the growing diversity in Anchorage and the importance of celebrating the cultures, stories, and contributions that continue to shape the community.
