Kulluk Incident

As mentioned, our senior leaders and staff had significant experience in crisis communications training and real-world experience before Yuit was formed, particularly with major oil producers, including ExxonMobil, Shell and Hilcorp. In 2012, when Shell’s drilling barge Kulluk broke its tow line and ran aground near Kodiak Island, Grant and Ingrid both worked in the round-the-clock Joint Incident Command, issuing frequent communications to the whole world.
